Reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment have become some of the most pressing issues of this century. In order to mitigate the impact of climate change, leading industry players must do more to achieve this goal and lead the way in environmental protection. We understand that planet Earth doesn’t belong to us; rather, we belong to the Earth. This should be a universal principle upheld by everyone working and operating in the telecom industry.
At MAC Networks, we are committed to addressing these environmental concerns. We pride ourselves on our customer-centric approach and our dedication to innovative solutions that contribute to energy-efficient networks. As cellular operators, it’s imperative to adopt a forward-thinking mindset to achieve energy efficiency and ultimately reach carbon neutrality – a target increasingly becoming a standard in today’s market.
One of our key initiatives has been to revise how operators provide power to remote sites. We looked at how the operators provided AC power to their remote sites and created a bespoke DC solution to enable them to reduce cable sizes which in effect reduces the amount of copper required on site. Every operator uses DC supplied equipment and do not have any requirement to provide AC power to their cell sites so why continue to install large diameter AC cables and this was our driver.
This reduction in copper use is environmentally significant. The mining and processing of copper are energy-intensive, consuming nearly 130 Gigajoules per ton. By decreasing copper requirements, we substantially lessen this environmental impact. Our goal is to educate our clients about these benefits, encouraging them to adopt our environmentally friendly practices. This not only aids in reducing their carbon footprint but also enhances their reputation as responsible, emission-conscious operators.
